Shooter was a COMPLETELY unplanned addition to our household. In February of 2002, Jen and I went to Alachua to see a litter out of two dogs that
we had really grown to like. We had no intention of purchasing a puppy out of this litter - and we didn't. As we were playing with the puppies, Jen
asked Jean, "Which of these pups remind you most of Magic?" Magic, our old man and our very first vizsla, will always be the quintessential, perfect
vizsla to us. Anyway, Jean pauses for a moment, and responds, "None of them. There are two out in the kennel that you should see." Two minutes
later, two 10 week old puppies come skidding across the tile floor - soon to be known as Max and Shooter. Well, Shooter skids to a stop in front of
Jen, does a perfect little sit, and just looks up at her. She turned and looked at me with this face that I knew meant trouble. We left that day without
a puppy, but with Jean's promise to hold onto him for a week so we could think about it. We had no plans to get a puppy that day, and by God, as far
as I was concerned, we weren't going to!! Jen was quite upset as we drove home. But, we talked about it over the next few days, and it didn't take
her long to convince me. The next weekend, Valley Hunter's Southern Comfort came home. (I came up with the name, by the way) :)
